Shoshana Macey – A great loss

Chanuka- the holiday of light and miracles. Doesn’t it seem the polar opposite to experience such a tragedy!? The loss of Shoshana Macey isn’t only hard because she was so young, but coupled with the understanding of how great she was makes it absolutely horrific.
Something that stands out in my mind is that Shoshana decided when she was just a little girl that she just HAS TO be religious and she was the impetus for her entire family’s turn over!¬†I will explain just a little bit of what I found so remarkable¬†about her.
Shoshana was the epitome of kindness- the Rav at the funeral spoke about how she would place cookies on the bed of a girl who wasn’t feeling amazing on any given day…and she would do it anonymously. In addition, when I was in camp with her, she had an iPad and I remember that she would always let everyone play on it for as long as they want.

She had a sincere closeness to Hashem- she davened THREE times a day and with such a fervor that you couldn’t help but wish you could daven like her. I remember in camp when we were asked if we want to wake up Tish’a B’Av morning for neitz, she jumped at the opportunity! She also was extremely giving – always seeking ways to do chessed and as her friends said at the levaya…she was constantly helping her friends for tests and school work. She ran to chessed straight from school- playing with a downs syndrome boy, and was always there to help out people in their time of need.
But not only did Shoshana have such a spectacular soul, she also knew how to have fun! She was always smiling and ready for adventure. She was an ispiration to everyone who knew her. Shoshana we miss you but know you are in the olam haemes…the place where you belong. May this be an aliyah for your neshama.
